TTG Smooth Gallery

Current version 1.1a

TTG Smooth Gallery is an HTML-based template for Adobe Lightroom that employs Jon Schemoul's SmoothGallery in lieu of the standard thumbnail grid. Based upon the MooTools Javascript framework, SmoothGallery offers a Flash-like experience without the Flash.

TTG Smooth Gallery 1.1a

Download | Sample Gallery | Forum Thread | Installation

TTG Smooth Gallery comes in two flavors. The standard version allows SmoothGallery images to be hyperlinked to HTML pages containing larger version images. The Basic version presents images only in the SmoothGallery and does not include additional HTML pages for images, and allows embedded hyperlinks to point to any location via the Image Settings pane.

System Requirements

TTG Smooth Gallery requires Lightroom 1.3.1 or higher.

I like the functionality & menu items but I keep getting an IE Script while still in LR. I am using TTG Smooth v1.1[w/ LR 1.4.1] and this error keeps popping up: Line 521 Char 4 Error: Type Mismatch Code: 0 URL: agwpg://localhost:1034/index.html Do you want want to continue running scripts on this page? [I usually check YES]

Also, the right hand menu runs off the right hand side of Lightroom by default. For example, under Album URL the text reads “*Optional; leave Thumbnail and URL bla”…..[and then it disappears]. The fix is to drag it out a bit to the left which I though LR would do for me…or at least set a minimum col width for the right pane.

All worked out well on the live site despite the LR .js error! So thanks! I will try out various others and make a donation!!

Scott,

The error is an age old problem, LR 1.x vs. IE. Click through the errors and the gallery should work fine. The errors shouldn’t occur anymore from LR2. As for the width of the panel, drag it out to full-width and restart Lightroom.

Cheers,
Matt

When I set the Contact Info Settings Background Color to white; no matter what color I set the Link Color to. the Contact Info and Menu Item links don’t show up after export (they show as white on a white background). Hover works and shows my grey hover color. I’ve looked in the CSS to figure out where things went wrong but haven’t found it yet.

Great template for Lightroom, thanks so much for your work on it. (I donated a while back).

There were errors in the code for the link color controls. They’re fixed now. Please download v1.11.

Thanks Matthew the update is great!

Matthew,
Thanks again for your Galleries! I’ve been working with the Smooth Gallery and my question is if this one works different from the other Galleries in which you would upload just one page/subfolder to your Website?

Is it meant to be a work around having to create a separate website with different folders?

Can you add more Menu Items to this Gallery? How?

It is also good to note that unless you have two or more images/pictures they do not show in the Gallery.

I just discovered how to correct the right panel so I can see the whole panel….by reading the answers above.

How does the Font Selection Work in the Header Settings Panel? I just want to use Verdana, but it shows in a different font.

Also the PicLens Panel I don’t see where that works? Other than the sound that is clear.

Can we get actual “enters” instead of \r in the Collection Description?

I don’t exactly know where, the Make Set and Timed within the Appearance Panel under Smooth Gallery works?

Can I change the color in the arrows? How can we get the people to know there are arrows?

What does the “Make Set Options” refer to?

Is there more info on how to use the XML Auto Index Panel?

Matthew, the Gallery works beautifully with Vertical images, but with horizontals I cannot get the Image to fit well within the black border, in reference to the size. The vertical Images have a nice black frame around them. Any suggestions?

These are a lot of questions…………I’m sorry to bother……….

Thanks,
Barbara

Yark! That’s a lot of questions.

TTG Smooth Gallery is a standalone gallery, like the others. You upload the folder to your web server, and that folder is a self-contained entity.

The folder-based gallery approach ensures that your galleries are modular, meaning that galleries can be added and removed from your website easily at any time. When used in conjunction with one of the TTG Auto Index templates, your site will be automatically updated to reflect your additions and removals.

Like all TTG galleries, the Smooth Gallery includes support for five custom menu items and a contact link. You can find the menu settings in the Site Info pane.

The galleries accept fonts in a CSS format string, wherein font names are listed in order of preference, separated by commas. Font names being more than a single word should be wrapped in quotation marks, and your final font listed should be either “serif” or “sans-serif” so that the system knows what type of font to use if none of the preferred fonts exist on the system. The gallery is configured to use Verdana first by default, so you shouldn’t need to change the fonts if that’s what you want.

PicLens doesn’t work in Lightroom; it runs from your browser. Visitors will need to have the PicLens plugin installed on their system to utilize most PicLens features. You can choose whether to enable the PicLens Lite slideshow, which will appear in the menu. Users without PicLens installed can still view this slideshow.

Can we get actual “enters” instead of \r in the Collection Description?

No, that’s a Lightroom problem, not a template problem.

Smooth Gallery includes a built in gallery index. You can enable the gallery index by enabling the “Make Set” checkbox. The Make Set Options can then be used to customize the appearance of the in-gallery gallery index. However, to have multiple galleries, you will need to merge multiple exported galleries manually using a text editor. Multiple galleries are not supported from within the Lightroom Web module; this is a limitation of Lightroom, and not something I can change.

The Timed feature will cause the images in your gallery to transition on a timer, in an automatic slideshow fashion.

To change the arrows, you will need to create new ones and replace the existing arrows in the resources/images/ folder.

Information on using the XML Auto Index panel can be found elsewhere on the site. Try the page for TTG XML Auto Index. Additionally, the panel itself is captioned in the Web module. The only fields you really need to fill in are Title and Description. The others are for advanced use only.

As for the sizing of images, the images and the slideshow are bound to the same sliders. The width and height of your slideshow should be equal to the longest sides of your images, and therefore accommodate all. If this is not the case, you’ll need to show me a sample gallery exhibiting the problem.

Cheers,
Matt

Is there any way to save statuc configuration information for the Smooth Gallery, like Site Title, copyright, etc.? That would sure speed things up.

You have done an amazing job with these galleries. I just discovered the album index today and can’t tell you how much I needed that.

Thank you!

You can store settings for a gallery using the Templates pane in the left panel of the Web module. Click the Add button to create a new template preset from the current settings.

Thanks, Matt.

Another quick question. How do I add galleries that don’t support the Album Index? I tried adding them to autoindex.xml in the ALBUM tag, but they’re not showing up. I have about 10 other galleries under www.debsilbert.com/shows, but they don’t automatically show up so I’m figuring they have to be added manually somewhere?

Debbie,

If you’re using TTG XML Album Index, then you need to at them to the XML file for that template, as explained on the documentation page.

If you’re using TTG XML Auto Index, then you need to use TTG XML Maker to create the autoindex.xml files for each individual gallery and include the files in the gallery folders.

matthew, many thx for your great work!
as a completely newbie in html/java, would like to ask about a little problem…

my web site is primary hosted under the domain http://www.photic.at
for some reason, i also use the domain www.photic.cc

SmoothGallery work without any problem when you call the site with the “photic.at” url…
if someone is useing the url “www.photic.cc”, it is redirect to “www.photic.at” and Smoothgallery will not show any image!
after the server based redirect, the original url will still be “photic.cc”

i also tried a “redirect” page, within “<meta http-equiv=“Refresh” content=“5; url=http://www.photic.at/”>” but it did not work also!

maybe someone have a clue or solution for the problem?
the same question is posted in Jonathan’s SmoothGallery Forum – How do I …?

many thx for any help!

Thanks, Matthew. I finally got the index to work. I was confusing Album index with Auto Index.

The only other problem I have is with a script error that generates in LR each time the Web module updates. It says:
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 521
Char: 4
Error: Type mismatch
Code: 0

And any chance SImpleViewer will be upgraded to work with Auto Index? I’ve had to replace my Simpleview galleries because, even though I was able to manually add the galleries, when opening the thumbnails were big Xs.

Hi Debbie,

The error is a known issue in LR/Windows and should be addressed in LR2.

The SimpleViewer gallery is coded in XSLT rather than Lua, so it won’t be enjoying Auto Index support until that changes. In the meantime, try using TTG XML Maker.

Hi Matthew,

I know the smooth gallery preload all the images, and will take a very long loading time if you have plenty of images.

Are all the images still need to be preloaded in this version?
If we have 100 photos of 100Kb each in each gallery, would it take a long time to load up?

Thanks

Conan
