I have downloaded the TTG Client response Gallery to:

Users/username/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Web Galleries/

I put it into the Web Galleries folder as a separate folder (TTGClientResponseGallery)with no results. (I also tried taking all the elements out of the original TTGClientResponseGallery folder and putting them directly into the Web Galleries folder.

Nothing happened, both times. Restarted both the Lightroom (v. 1.3.1) application and then the computer itself (PowerPC G4, 2 gb memory, system 10.4.11).

Still nothing. It does not show up.

Advice?

If you have the beta version of the gallery installed, remove it. If that’s not the problem, let me know.

I’ve been tinkering with this Gallery – and I like it a lot. It fills a gap in my client services, so thanks! One question – is it possible to set the high res downloads larger than 3000×3000?

Let me echo the response of John F above. It is perfect for me in the same area.

I also would like to be able to set a higher rez download. How high can you comfortably go given the parameters? What is the largest you feel is feasible? In other words, If a client wants to use an image on a two page spread it is one thing. But, if it is for a poster etc then another. I would always vote for the maximum size possible.

Here are some other thoughts:
If I am putting it up for client downloads, I don’t need the feedback portion. Can it be removed in a future version? This would create more space for photos per page of the gallery and clean up the presentation. Also, might eliminate confusion with some clients. At the point I am giving them this, they do not need to give me feedback, rate the photos or make choices. They are making the choices by the downloads they make.

Would be nice to later determine which photos were downloaded by the client(s).

Could a “Download Button” be affixed? They push the button and then the photo downloads directly to their desktop. Or, better, they are given an opportunity to browse and indicate (or create) which folder the photo should go into.

This is the type of gallery that one might ALWAYS automatically want to have password protected. I suppose we should download your recommendation in that area.

I’m not sure there’s a way to include a “leave at full size” option, but I can increase the limitation on the maximum image size.

Theoretically, with quality set to 100 and Image Width and Height each set to the largest dimension of your full resolution images (in your case, John, Width and Height for the third rendition would both be set to 3872px), the third rendition should be “full size”.

Now that the XML Album Index is released, I’ll be returning to the Client Response gallery for an update. I might take a day or two off first, though, and maybe work on some actually photography. ;)

For the next version, I want to experiment with methods of hiding or disabling parts of the gallery so that photographers can better customize the form for their clients. I need to play with things before I can say for certain what will or will not be possible, though.

You are correct; it is possible to select more than one. Unfortunately, that’s checkbox behavior. I’d tried using radio buttons instead, as you can only choose one radio button at a time, but then the form received was a mess of individual entries. To receive results in the desired format – image file names separated by commas, easily copied and pasted into Lightroom’s Find pane – I needed to go with the checkboxes.

OK, so I am trying to get the Client Response gallery to work and I’m having trouble. I downloaded the folder, changed the email address in the PHP document as instructed and put in the web gallery (not web templates) folder which was already there. I also upgraded my hosting to make sure that I had PHP on the server. This is the error I get:

Warning: mail(): Failed to connect to mailserver at “65.211.123.33” port 25, verify your “SMTP” and “smtp_port” setting in php.ini or use ini_set() in O:\Hosted Web Sites\Chris.Hollo\hollophotographics_com\www\josh_test\FormToEmail.php on line 218

I just love the Client response gallery, but I got some problems when some galeries got messed up. The thumnails looked as if there where stretched (not all but some) and the tumbs didnt correspond to the image that gets displayed when you click on them.
Have you heard of this problem or do you have an Idea on how to solve this. I put up a gallery with just the broken thumbs and they worked fine. But in the large galery with over 250 pictures some are always broken.

damm I could bang my forhead, it just doesn’t work in Firefox, seems to be a hickup there :-) (must erase my cache)
I just tried it in Safari and it works like always…
One thing though: LR crashed a couple of times while generating a preview of the Gallery (freezing)
Ill drop you a line in case I find a pattern or if it doesnt stop.

Your tool really does most of what I need, but as I see that you like feedback ;-), here is what would be wonderful for me:<br> – client info (name, email, etc), username & password and “custom text” set-up from Lightroom so that when the website is uploaded, an email is sent directly to my client with the link, username & password and custom text with instructions. – a “save” feature for the clients as they are working on the page (generally, the web gallery is 100’s of photos, so they might want to stop in the middle and also there is the risk that the page times out and they have to start all over again).<br> – multi-page gallery (goes with the point above) – billing option (check-out to PayPal)
Anyway… thanks again for these wonderful web galleries and innovative ideas!

Hello Matthew and thanks for your long answer!

I’ve come accross a little issue that you might already know about. If a user enters a comment beneath a photo, but doesn’t “tick” the box, the email I get lists the comments one after the other without reference to the photo it came from… which makes it a little difficult to track.

Anything that I’m doing wrong or is it “normal” and can be fixed in a next version?

I’ll give a go at beta 2.0 as soon as I get a minute to breathe :-)

I love the new Client response gallery and use it alot. Just one thing, i don’t want my clients to download my images without paying for it, is it possible to disable the “save image as…” function? Would be nice as I’m selling websized images.
Fix that and I’m donating!

Awesome product. I’m using version 2.0 R3 on LR 1.3.1. I created a test Gallery that works perfectly including the Password Protection and the email form. It’s the one named “Jana and Chris Test Comment site” on http://weddingmedia.net/Portfolio/ . (I finally figured out the indexing thing and put it to use.)

Feeling confident I created a new site “Excel Graduation Party”. Sometime durng my modifications in the LR web module, I started getting IE Script error messages. I figured this is one of those IE vs LR things you mentioned in another post and proceeded as best as I could. However, after posting, restartng and recreating the site, I am still getting the same error.

Hi Carlos,

You can save settings at any time by creating a template preset. To do that, find the Templates pane in the left panel of the Web module, and click the ‘Add’ button.

As for the errors, you should be able to click through them and continue to use the gallery. My understanding is that LR2 will take steps to suppress these errors, so they should soon be a thing of the past.

Are you having problems with the gallery once it’s been exported to the web, or is it okay at that point?

While in LR, even after a restart once I click over to the web gallery tab, as the page starts to build, I’ll get a popup Windows Internet Explorer Message reading:

Stop running this Script?
A scrip on this page is causing IE to run slowly…

it gives yes and No buttons and the page hangs until something or other clears. Similar Activity occurs when leaving the site. Similar messg on Firefox.

I just tried out your gallery and saw the script error message as well. There’s a few things I’d like you to do.

1) Click through to my sample gallery and tell me whether you receive the error there as well.

2) Remove the password protection from your gallery and try it again (I expect this won’t help at all, but I want you to try it just to be safe).

3) Create your gallery again and do not edit the code (i.e. don’t insert your paragraphs or make any other changes). I want to test the raw output from the gallery to confirm that the error is generated from the template. I want you to test this mostly because the code you’ve inserted into the page is not XHTML compliant.

4) Systematically remove the <script> tags from the head of your gallery, one-by-one, and see if we can narrow the problem down to one script.

Please let me know the results of these tests and I’ll try to troubleshoot further from the findings.

After much experimentation with various configs I have finally concluded that the culprit is the number of images or perhaps the overall size of the files that I had in the gallery. I have made 3 functioning gallerys with the images that I was hoping to have in one.

You can see them at my recent page for the moment. Later I will be creating an http://weddingmedia.net/excel/ page for these. the password is still 2008.

Another issue that I see is that in IE every time the Selection X is clicked the page jumps down aprox. 2 pages worth. Quite irritating for the user. Have you experienced this. Perhaps this too is because of th number of images?

The form to email script has stopped sending selection choices. It was however working when I first tested the template on my server.

Great gallery! Makes my work with clients running smooth and easy but is there an option for fully disabling ‘right click’? I’ve already disabled HIres photos but the smaller (e.g. 640px) pictures can be downloaded by the visitors without my permission.

Fantastic work on these galleries. They are truly making lightroom a more fun, usable and professional tool.

My question is the same as Carlos’ and Ryan’s. I have a gallery with 300+ images and it seems to freeze up Safari (I end up force quitting) and Firefox gives messages popping up saying un-responsive script, “continue” or “cancel”.

I’d really love to use this gallery to send to wedding clients but this little bug seems to be slowing things down quite a bit.

Do you have any suggestions or idea to work around this issue or is it just the nature of the beast so to speak?

If this pesky bug gets fixed I know several photographers willing to switch over to this sort of gallery,
and would be more than happy to donate to the cause.

Sounds like you’ve hit the nail right on the head with your conclusion.

I’m wondering… do you freelance and how difficult would it be to create a simpler version of this.
Perhaps just a simple check box in the bottom right hand corner of every thumbnail.
Very clean, and minimal with some of the options like print sizes and comments still available.
You mentioned that if there is less script then perhaps larger galleries would be more inclined to work efficiently.

I’d be willing to purchase something like this from you without all the bells and whistles.
I love the idea of this and would love for it to be an everyday tool.

This gallery is so close to what we need! The problem is so many of our photographer-clients shoot 200-400 shots per “shot” and they really need a way to be able to mark them up and cull them together and sort them various ways. I guess that would add another big layer to this whole process but it would be SOOO useful for them. I wish i could just divide them into multiple galleries, but i don’t think they would like it because they could never see all their 3 stars at once, for example.

otherwise you are really onto something with this one! the ability to password-protect it, the new multi large preiviews-at-once thingy, and the email-text-to-LR-Find technique are all so helpful!

I have been using you galleries for some time and wish, once again, to thank you for your work. After a revisit to your site i decided to update mine and take advantage of the Autoindexing and the client response gallery.

As I attend mountain bike events I have been looking for a gallery which I could directly export my images to from LR and have specific features for visitors. Many riders ask for small images which can be time consuming if you indulge and the more savvy just take them anyway. Having a link to an image will save me many an email reply for no sale!

I have uploaded three recent events (www.garywilliamson.co.uk/lr/events) but as they contain a large number of images I experience the issues described above plus an age working within LR as the scripts hog processor time. I now create the gallery with just 3 images filtered in Library beforehand, complete the relevant info in the web module, skip back to Library, filter in the rest of the images, back to web module, press upload and go make a coffee………. and have another one……. :>)

Do you think there might be away to break the gallery into pages? Most of my customers will only want one or two images so I could live with the fact that previous selections would not get carried page to page.

I have tested my new layout in FF, Oprea and Safari and works OK in most but I notice that my main gallery page www.garywilliamson.co.uk/lr does not load correctly in safari. A quick mouseover sorts it out though – any suggestions as to what this is and what would fix it?

I can’t tell you how much I have loved using the templates and galleries you have put together. I have used them along with slideshow pro for lightroom along with director. I do have a issue that I have not been able to solve using the client response page R 2.0 R3. The page opens up and functions well. What happens is, if while on the page, the user clicks on the menu to navigate through the site, instead of the page opening in the same window instance, it opens up a new window leaving the current on open. Thus leaving the client response window open. If the user comes back via the menu selections another new window will open. Too many windows, any suggestions. Thanks…….

Target is set to _blank intentionally to prevent users from accidentally clicking their way out of the page and losing any form input they’ve made. It’s meant as a safeguard.

Hello! CRG is making my life easier, so much so that I actually purchased the form to email pro, however, I wonder if there is a way to have it automatically include itself in the CRG output pages. I’m no wizard, so I was hoping to get some guidance on how I can move from the regular version to the pro version without manual intervention. Thanks!!

thanks, I couldn’t figure that out to save my life so I just took the easy road which is to let LR export your gallery and then just rename the new formtoemailpro.php to FormToEmail.php and everything works. So it’s really not life or death as long as I remember to rename the php file before upload.

knowing how slammed you’ve been I’m hesitant to bug you with this but I’m just not getting it. Since the pro version is named differently and has different content than the free version all my renaming in the LRWEB files has been met with ‘chunk…syntax” errors. Just replacing the file itself in the template folder doesn’t work because of the name change as well. What am I not getting here? Thanks for dealing with the trouble!!

Tried. I get an error presumably because the content of the two files is different. I tried just putting the pro version in the web directory and replacing the non pro version, then renaming the pro version to the previous name, no go. If, however, I do this after the gallery is built and I do it manually prior to upload, it works fine. Probably just me or it could be lines within the new version don’t match lines within the old version. Still worth doing though and I’m sure there’ll be an update at some point in the future.

I am having major problems in getting the FormToEmail.php to work. I bought the pro version still no luck. I am being hosted by Yahoo Small business and their support group instructed me to insert this:

Step 1: Copy and paste the following HTML code to the <Form> tag in your page.

Step 2: Save the file you are working on. When a visitor submits the form, the results will be emailed to the alternate email address you have listed in your Yahoo! Account Information.

I’ve spent some time creating presets in Lightroom so my file names only ever contain “_” and not “-”, the only problem comes when working with virtual copies.

Once I have prepared and exported my gallery in the web module, I then re-export the images keeping the file names intact, LR however will give virtual copies a “-” in the exported file name.

Do you know how I can stop LR from doing this and using a “_” in virtual copy file names when exporting from the Libray module?

The client response is awesome. The ONE change I’d make is that the “client assignable ratings” is set to only once choice at a time, meaning if I choose 5 and then 3, 5 would get unchecked.

When I try to send using FormtoEmail I get an error. I had set this up in an earlier version than 2.01 and now it doesn’t work. I get this error:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Many thanks for The Client Response gallery, it looks great & I think I might grow very fond of it.
But right now I cant seem to get V2.01 to run to completion.
I have Lightroom V2 on a Win XP machine, and V2.01 of the Client Web Gallery seems to crash lightroom right at the last step with the “Building requested page” in the top left of the screen almost at 100%. Ive tried removing the web gallery & starting with a fresh version, Ive also tried to sw off the live update js, but its still won’t run to completion. Client Response Gallery 1.1 runs fine. Any ideas?

Hi Matthew,
like everyone else I’m totally bowled over by your commitment to the TTG templates. They really are the biz. I’ve been playing with your client response template and noticed a couple of problems that I think I’ve solved and thought it might be of use to you. Like you I’m a Macintosh man but, due to a short sighted employer, I have to work with the dreaded PC’s. The upside of this is that I can take a look at the template on both platforms, and as you would expect there are some differences. Internet Explorer (yeauch) has problems displaying PNG’s even with the JavaScript fix. The area that it shows up in most is the ticks, crosses and response buttons/icons in the gallery feedback boxes. My work around for this has been to change “chk_on.png” for a GIF version “chk_on.gif”. The same for “chk_off.png” and “respond.png”. The have to be in all instances of the gallery/resources/images folders and the gallery/resources/CSS/gallery.css file has to be amended in each case of course but it seems to work in my testing.

The other problem/fix is when placing an “idplate” image in the header. Internet Explorer has problems when you amend the spacing to cater for it. In my case the extra spacing is not recognised for some reason. My solution, via trial and error, was to change all the CSS file “header” references from “min-height” to “height”.

I’m not a coder and most of this is suck it and see for me. I don’t know if these changes have any implications elsewhere but I’m sure you could put me right on that. Anyway hope this is of some use so someone :-)

An idea for the future – maybe give all the pages the ability to refer to the resources in the root directory to cut down on loading and duplication of assets. Dunno – just a thought?

PS. Any ideas on how to integrate the password entry script into a standard TTG page. I’ve worked out how to create a “thank you” page for the FormToEmail by duplicating the about page and amending it but I’m stuck on the password version.
