Glen Phillips, former Toad the Wet Sprocket front-man and one of my favorite musicians, is self-releasing his new EP, Secrets of the New Explorers.
In the age-old spirit of Ziggy Stardust, the EP features six new, space-themed songs. The record has quite a different vibe from Glen’s two previous releases, Mr. Lemons and Unlucky 7. What the record shares in common with its predecessors, however, is high quality song-writing. The only disappointment here is that it’s an EP, not a full-length album, and ends all too quickly.
The new explorers have no dearth of secrets, and here’s one of my favorites: The best way to get people interested in your music is to let them hear it. Glen seems to know this well; the entire EP is available now in high-quality, streaming audio. Listen below, and don’t forget to pre-order your copy on CD. Glen is an artist much deserving of support and, having no record label, you’ll be supporting him directly by purchasing his records. I’ve already ordered mine.
Using the store below, you can purchase all of Glen’s records, and you can listen to streaming audio from both Secrets of the New Explorers and Unlucky 7. Scroll through the albums using the arrows in the lower left, beneath the album cover.
On the matter of revealing secrets, Glen is one of indie music’s best kept secrets. Let’s not keep him that way. By clicking on the arrows icon in the music player / store above, you can share it on your own website. An independent artist, he depends largely on word-of-mouth to get his music into new hands. Spread the word, let the secret out and muster all the support you can for Glen.
