I’ve always been a big Garbage fan and I’m glad to say that their latest album, “Bleed Like Me”, isn’t going to change that.
As has been the case with all of Garbage’s CDs, the band has chosen again not to repeat itself. While their third album Beautiful Garbage saw the band veering towards pop music, Bleed Like Me returns them to rock. But where their rock was sleek, sexy and layered before, it’s now gritty, aggressive and loud. The album sounds less produced than past efforts, with more of a focus placed on the songs themselves. But as Bleed Like Me proves, simplicity is not to be mistaken for weakness.
It’s a good, solid rock/pop album, as radio friendly as Garbage has ever been. They’ve never pushed the envelope, they’ve never been very avant garde or challenging. But they’ve always been good — really, really good. And they continue to be fun, and to have fun with their music.
If you’ve never liked Garbage in the past, this album likely won’t change your opinion of them, but for fans, it’s one more excellent entry in the band’s catalogue.
Standout tracks: Sex Is Not The Enemy, Run Baby Run.
