Kelby praises CRG, wants Adobe to buy me

I. Am. Shocked.

Scott Kelby has long disparaged Lightroom's Web module. But on the most recent episode of The Grid, he praises TTG CE2 Client Response Gallery, tells Adobe to buy me, and then tells people to go buy TTG CE2 Client Response Gallery.

He can't remember my name, or the name of my company, but he does look it up to share. Then messes it up again later in the episode. But, uhm ... yeah ...

The episode is about all the things Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski would like to see changed in Photoshop and (more) in Lightroom. See the episode here. He starts talking about TTG around the 38:50 mark.

Thanks to Chuck Behrman for giving me the heads-up on this one.

And this is as good a time as any to remind you we have a CE3 version coming later this month! Stay tuned!

  1. Wow yeah, that is pretty shocking. Good news nonetheless as it should increase sales and who knows, maybe more.

  2. And of course Kelby isn’t in it for any self-aggrandizement or promotion of his brand, of course, right??

  3. Don’t let him in your door.

  4. Good for you but please for the sake of all don’t sell.

There are so many Lemmings on the web that follow these people.

  5. Kelby is an ass for promoting good stuff?
    I don’t get it.

  6. Ha! Your comments gave me a good chuckle when I checked in today. But really, any publicity is good publicity. Even when it’s Scott Kelby saying, “I forget his name, but go buy his thing, whatever it’s called.” Maybe I should rebrand TTG as Tom-Tom-Gary to better capitalize on the exposure …

  7. I’m not a fan of Scott Kelby but any publicity is good publicity and he does have a big audience.

I do wonder why Adobe have never been tempted to make you an offer though?

  8. Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski were so impressed with TTG’s Client Response Gallery that they told Adobe to go buy TTG. That’s quite a compliment; so, I’m a bit surprised by some of the negative vibe I’m feeling from the comments so far received (i.e., TTG vs Abobe/Kelby). If I were running Abobe, and had created Lightroom, I would do everything I could to persuade Matt and his team to join me. It really isn’t an “us vs them” scenario (the “evil” Borg (Adobe) “assimilating” the courageous outlier (TTG)); rather, it’s more about a great company, with a great product, recognizing a group of extraordinarily gifted people and wanting them to be on their team. That makes plain, good, business sense.

Also, I like Scott Kelby and think his efforts (assisted by his equally great team) over the years have been of fantastic benefit to creative photographers everywhere.

    • In truth, I have a good relationship with Adobe, or at least the LR team members I’m in touch with, including the product manager Tom Hogarty. They appreciate what I do to increase the value of Lightroom, or so I’m told.

  9. Ron, much of the negativity comes from Kelby’s dismissal of the web module as a whole and hence dismissal of anybody who makes use of it. Even this endorsement was pretty rudely delivered; he couldn’t be bothered noting the name of the company or creator of the product he says Adobe should buy. Rude or arrogant, take your pick.

Having said that, any publicity is good publicity.

  10. Just to put things in perspective, I’d never heard of your
company or product……..here I am. i’d say thanks Scott for
pointing me here. Wether you like Scott’s very loose and informal
style, at least he has the courage to get a message out instead of
sitting on it because he realizes he does not have all the details
sorted. Now looking further into what you have on offer.

    • As I said, any publicity is good publicity. And your timing is perfect as we’ve just today put out some major new releases. Welcome to the fold; glad to have you aboard.

  11. Chuck Behrman says:

I saw Scott’s “The Grid” episode.

Yes, he said he didn’t like the Web module and yes, his style is very relaxed and impromptu.

However, he did imply that the TTG product is about the only thing that makes the Web module worthwhile – specifically, the TTG Client Response Gallery. He went so far as to say that this is what the Web Module should have been.

That being said — Great work Matt — now go and update the Client Response Gallery to CE3 (along with the Blog & Paypal access).

  12. The only reason I heard of this site is Scott and his mention of it. I personally have considered the web module to be a waste of electrons up to now. So bad mouth him at your own risk. He got me here, he didnt offend me to do it and the only offensiveness I’ve seen is from this board.
